Safety measures in the automobile world are increasing day by day. In this context, Toyota’s subsidiary Daihatsu seems to have failed. In its latest statement, the Japanese automaker announced that it failed to pass safety test procedures. Therefore, all shipments have been stopped.

An investigation in Japan found irregularities in vehicles manufactured by Daihatsu Motor Company. As a result, all vehicle shipments, including to Japan and other countries, have been suspended.

According to a statement from Toyota, irregularities were found in 64 Daihatsu models, including engine types. Failing 174 tests in 25 categories, the company’s vehicle safety has also become a subject of debate. The affected models include Daihatsu’s entire current production line.

The safety tests that were found to be problematic were also shared. Daihatsu failed in areas such as side impact, braking, steering and emissions. Toyota said all 22 models produced at Daihatsu factories were affected.

The Japanese company said production will be halted until each model is retested and verified to meet legal safety and emissions standards. Shipments of vehicles already in distribution have also been suspended.

The investigation in Japan is a major blow to Daihatsu, which produces around 1.7 million vehicles worldwide each year. It should be noted that irregularities in safety tests could also be a problem for Toyota.
